Theory

A theory is a speculative explanation for the numerous observable facts, available at the time, which is well substantiated by extensive testing that has produced corroborative evidence.

Example:

After hearing some of the feedback from voters who attended the state convention, the Party decided to do a survey test their hypothesis for why their candidate had not received the support expected in the last election. The needed to base the next statewide campaign on a theory based on solid evidence.
