On the Fly

The phrase “on the fly” is used to describe something that is done quickly and while you are in the process of moving, doing, or accomplishing something.

Example:

The new staffer and inexperienced staffer had to learn her job on the fly as she was hired in the middle of Session to replace a staffer who had been fired.
