The term casework refers to the specific assistance that an elected official provides to a constituent relating to assistance needed with the government.
Example:
A constituent called the Senator’s office because his mother had been turned down when she applied for Medicaid. As an attorney, he believed that his mother had met all of the requirements for inclusion in the program. The staffer who spoke with the constituent contacted the liaison at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to identify the problem.
