Ballot

A ballot is a method or system of voting. A ballot can be a piece of paper, a card, or some mechanism that allows a person to vote.

Example:

Not everyone liked that the city had decided to change the method of voting from paper ballots to cards. Some were concerned that there would be no paper ballot to verify the vote count and there were rumors that the computers were not recording votes properly.
